Construction work in ancient times – whether for temples & pyramids in Egypt, roads in the Roman Empire or for bridges in China – was carried out by direct labour (including slaves) at the behest of the sovereign ruler financed by proceeds of taxation.  Such work was then not governed by any form of contract as we know it, nor was there in place the concept of law of contract needed to do so.  Contract law and forms of contracts are relatively recent developments impacting constructions works.

Because we now have the tools to form a binding Contract to ensure that “someone else” will “build” or will “construct” in accordance with what has been agreed to be built or be constructed for which contract  law knowledge is paramount.
